About the Event

About the talk: Approximately 90% of all cut flowers sold in the UK are imported - many are air-freighted for 1000’s of miles before they reach our shores. Ben Cross passionately believes that home-grown blooms are the best; from both an environmental and economic point of view. His family-run Sussex flower farm produces alstroemerias for the cut flower trade. Ben will talk about the history of Crosslands Farm and why alstroemerias are considered to be one of the most eco-friendly flower crops. He will also take us on a live tour around the glasshouses. The nursery is not open to the general public, so this is an excellent opportunity to have a ‘behind-the-scenes’ tour of a commercially run operation.

About the speaker: Ben is a 4th generation horticulturalist. He manages the family business nr. Chichester that was originally set up on the site by his great-grandfather.

*Please note: this talk will commence at 2:30pm in order to have sufficient daylight for the nursery tour. Remember, if the timing for the live event is inconvenient for you, the event will be recorded in the usual way and all paid-for ‘attendees’ will receive a ‘Catch Up’ recording of the talk to watch at another time. The recording will be available for 14 days.
