About the Event

About the Talk: What are the ‘good’ and ‘bad’ insects we find in our garden? How to identify them? When should we use pest control? How do we attract useful bugs to our gardens and what should we do when foreign interlopers such as the Spanish slug invade? All this and much, much more will be addressed by Dr Ian Bedford - also known as ‘The Entertaining Entomologist’.

About the Speaker: Dr Ian Bedford has been fascinated by insects for as long as he can remember. As a youngster, he studied butterflies on the South Downs, then pursued a career as a research entomologist, ultimately running the Entomology Department at the John Innes Research Centre in Norwich for 42 years. Now working as an independent entomologist, Ian advises companies working on environmentally safer plant protection products. He works extensively for BBC radio and has made many TV appearances - everything from Gardeners’ World to Harry Hill!
