About the Event

About the talk: Our first Zoom talk of 2021 offers fascinating glimpses into some of the less well-known aspects of bygone Sussex life. Incorporating old photographs and cine film, the talk covers a diverse range of topics, including agricultural, industrial, aviation, artistic and sporting activities that all took place in the Ouse Valley; located between Lewes and the sea.

About the speaker: Local historian and family history researcher, Ian Everest, can trace his Sussex farming roots as far back as 1841 - and probably for several generations before that. Ian started his working life in the family tradition; attending agricultural college and working on farms. In 1987 his career had a complete change of direction when he became manager for Newhaven Fort. At around the same time he started tracing his own family history - this ongoing research activity has led to the development of local history talks.
